What CherokeeWorks collects, and what it does with it.

Plain words, no fine print. This page describes what this site actually stores. Nothing here is sold, and there are no ads.

Accounts

Employer and job-seeker accounts use Netlify Identity, the login service from our web host. To make an account you give a name, an email address and a password. The password is handled by Netlify Identity; we never see it. We keep your name, email, the type of account, an optional phone number, when the account was made and when you last used it. Signing in sets a login cookie (nf_jwt) so the site knows it's you. That is the only cookie this site sets.

Company profiles and job posts

A business profile holds the company name, town, website, industry, size, a short description, and a contact name, email and phone. A job post holds the title, description, category, town, work setting, pay (if you give it) and how to apply — a link, an email address or applying here. Everything is reviewed by the administrator before it appears.

Once approved, the public sees the listing and your company name, town, website and description. The email address where applications are sent is not shown publicly. Your contact name, email and phone are for the administrator only. A short version of each live listing (title, town and a link) is shared with the Cherokee Loop search at cherokeeloop.com, and listings are marked up so search engines like Google can show them. We also keep a record of each review decision (who decided, what, and when).

If you tick the box for the monthly employer update, we store that you agreed and when. You can turn it off from your dashboard.

Writing help. If you use the “draft it for me” button, the title, town, category, pay and notes you typed are sent to an AI model (Anthropic’s Claude, through Netlify’s AI Gateway) to write a first draft. Don’t put anything private in those notes.

Job seekers, applications and resumes

If you apply through this site, we store your name, email, phone, cover note and resume (up to 5 MB), plus the job you applied to. The administrator reviews each application first. The employer only sees it, and your resume, after it is approved. Your profile can also hold a headline, short bio, town, phone, skills and the kind of work you want.

You can ask to be listed in the candidate directory. If approved, employers can see your first name, headline, town, the kind of work you want and your skills — never your surname, email, phone or resume. An employer can only invite you to apply; nothing more is shared unless you accept and the application is approved.

Resume coach. If you choose to use it, your resume (or the text you paste in) is sent to an AI model (Anthropic’s Claude, through Netlify’s AI Gateway) to get feedback. It does not change your stored file. It is optional.

Weekly job alerts

If you sign up for job alerts, we store your email, the towns and job types you picked, the exact wording you agreed to, when you signed up and which page you signed up on. The weekly email is sent through Zoho Campaigns, so your email address is given to Zoho for that. Every email has an unsubscribe link, or you can write to us.

Visit and Apply counters

When a page loads, it tells our server which page was viewed (/api/hit). When you click Apply, it records which job (/api/apply-hit). We only keep a count per page or per job per day. We don’t store your IP address, your browser details, or a cookie, and we can’t tell who you are from these counts. Counts for a listing may be shared with the employer who posted it.

Analytics and other services

We don’t use Google Analytics, ad trackers or tracking pixels. The counters above are the only analytics. Pages load fonts from Google Fonts, so your browser connects to Google to get them, which means Google sees your IP address. The site is hosted by Netlify, which handles all requests and stores the data described here.

Review-queue emails

When something new needs review, the site sends the administrator an email at hello@cherokeeworks.page (through Netlify Forms). It says what kind of item it is, a short business or job label and a link to the review desk. It doesn’t include job seekers’ personal details. Messages sent through the contact form on the About page (name, email, topic, message) are delivered the same way.

Newsletter and text signups

The newsletter and text-message signups on this site are run by Cherokee Happenings, not CherokeeWorks. What you enter goes straight to cherokeehappenings.com. See the Cherokee Happenings privacy policy and SMS terms.

Your choices

From your dashboard you can withdraw an application (it is marked withdrawn, not erased) and remove your resume. To see, fix or delete anything else we hold about you, or to close your account, email us and we’ll take care of it.
